In 2003 the two founders of Habitat InsulFoam – who are both experienced renovators and restoration specialists based in Nova Scotia – started looking for alternatives to conventional forms of insulation. Born out of years of frustration dealing with air and water leakage, rodent and insect infestations and countless other problems typically associated with older buildings, Brad and Tim agreed that a better form of insulation was a key ingredient for quality renovations and higher energy efficiency.

Spray foam insulation was one of those products they had heard about, but just assumed would be “too expensive” to put in their own buildings. At the time it seemed like the only people using spray foam in the Maritimes were the mega contractors with the mega bucks, but certainly not normal people with average incomes. It therefore came as a pleasant surprise to discover that spray foam insulation was already commonly used elsewhere in Canada, and could easily be justified by the average homeowner. The incredible savings on heating and cooling costs made it an indisputable solution, and the environmental spin-offs gave Brad and Tim a good feeling about using it on their own projects.

The rest, as they say, is history. Today Habitat InsulFoam is leading the charge for better insulation practices across the Maritimes, and has a rapidly growing list of satisfied homeowners, landlords and developers.
