Personal
I received my secondary
education at Turriff Academy, Aberdeen, Scotland, and received my B.Sc.(Eng.Hons 2.1) and
my M.Sc.(Eng.) from Aberdeen University, Scotland. I worked in the Department
of Telecommunications, Pretoria, and then at Cape Town University and Groote
Schuur Hospital on computer software and signal processing before joining
Stellenbosch University, Department of Electrical & Electronic Engineering.
In 1978 I emigrated to Canada
and after spending some time in industry I returned to Academe and earned my
Ph.D. in 1986. Since 1980 I have been at the Technical University of Nova
Scotia which was merged with Dalhousie
University in 1996. I
have held various adademic positions and am currently Director of the Master of
Engineering in Internetworking Program. My research interests are in signal
processing and network communications.
For Robertson genealogy buffs my great grandfather was Alexander Forbes
Robertson b. 8 Jun.1861 at Mawcarse, and he had four sons, Alexander b. 24
Nov.1886, Peter b.18 Jan.1892, David b. 10 Feb.1883, Thomas b.12 Jun. 1894 and
daughters Isabella b. 13 Oct.1889, Margaret b. 24 Nov.1884 all born in Broughty
Ferry to his wife Barbara Robertson b.3 Apr. 1853 at Monifieth.
AFR's father was Thomas Alexander Robertson believed b. circa Jul.1828 and
mother Julia Forbes believed b. circa Aug.1833. Thomas Alexander had, as
siblings to AFR, Isabella, John, Elizabeth.
Thomas Alexander's father was probably John Robertson b. circa Dec.1775, and
that John's father might have been the John Robertson who married Janet Stewart
on 15 Dec.1770.
