I read (CH 5 Feb 2012) that some Islamic leaders have signed a fatwa in order to counter misinterpretations of the Qur'an, such as the unfortunate interpretation made by Mohammad Shafia. About 25 years ago I read as much as I could tolerate from both the Koran and the Old Testament. Literally, both books left me chilled. It is unreasonable for religious leaders to put the burden of a sane interpretation upon the reader. If religious leaders wish to be taken seriously then they should rewrite both the Koran and the Bible so as to remove that which is clearly wrong and make clear that which is obscure. Start with the tenth commandment. It is outrageous to list women amidst the chattels of a man!
While considering the tenth commandment, religious leaders might also pause to wonder if it sensible to make common human behaviour into a thought crime?
Tenth Commandment (Exodus 20:1-17): "thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's."
