The Cape Breton Astronomical Society

History of CBAS:

The Cape Breton Astronomical Society has been serving the Sydney, N.S. area since 1986. Our main objective is to introduce astronomy as a hobby to the general public and to take some of the mystery out of it. Our goal is accomplished in the same manner as most other amateur astronomy clubs, by putting on public Star Parties at convenient times, such as major astronomical events ie: Meteor Showers, Solar and Lunar Eclipses. We can get people involved showing them that the only astronomical equipment they need to get started are their own eyes. We have also been taking this hobby to Schools, Girl Guides, Boy Scouts, Sparks, and Cubs.

Now, through the cooperation of the CBAS, Department of Natural Resources and the Friends of Mira Park Society, we have a new observatory set up at the Mira Provincial Park where people can come and camp and enjoy dark skys.

Send mail to Mira Provincial Park Observatory with questions or comments.
