Calling
all History Buffs!
A
message from a local researcher:
"I
am researching the history of Carroll’s Corner. My
first subject is the one room school named Carroll’s
Corner, which at one time was called Landell School, and
the three room school named Carroll’s Corner Elementary
– now the Community Centre.
Personal accounts from staff and
students along with class pictures would be appreciated.
Diaries and meeting notes are also an excellent source.
As my research progresses I will be
expanding the subjects so please see the pictures and
the newspaper clips as ideas. All suggestions will be
accepted.
Thank you,

The
Mastodon Trail
Have you 'hit the trail yet'?
Over the past several years, Carroll's Corner Community Centre, in
partnership with HRM's Trail Association and National Gypsum, have
developed the first stage of a multi-purpose trail, accessable from
the back of the soccer field. Easy walking and plenty of shade
make it an attractive woodland escape from the bustle of the hall
and playing fields. Several steepish inclines provide a bit of
a workout, combined with gentler stretches where you can slow the
pace down and enjoy the surrounding sights and sounds of nature.
Wild berries, flowers and birds abound. The trail is well groomed
and surfaced with a fine grade gravel. Birdwatchers, dog
walkers, bicyclers, horseback riders, skiers & snowshoers are all
welcome and will find their own little piece of heaven. The
only restriction is that the trail is is open to non-motorized
traffic only. Also please pick up after your pet, and 'pack
out your trash'.
A new guide has recently been
produced, courtesy of Martha E. Grantham, and is available free of
charge at the hall. New and old visitors to the trail will
appreciate this booklet which details some of the natural features
you may see along the way, as well as a bit of background on the
story of the Carroll's Corner own mastodon. It will help you
identify some of the local flora and signs of our wildlife friends
as well.
