The First Steps Early Intervention Association was established in 1991 to develop and implement home based early intervention services in Lunenburg County.
First Steps provides services to families throughout Lunenburg County. Referrals are received from a variety of community agencies as well as from parents. Consent from the parents or guardians must be obtained before referring to First Steps. Services are provided to families at no cost and participation is voluntary.
The Early Interventionist’s are educated and experienced in the area of early childhood development and are responsible to a voluntary Board of Directors. Board Members include parents of children participating in the program, specialists in the field of Early Intervention and interested community members.
Financial support for the First Steps Early Intervention Association is provided in part by the Nova Scotia Department of Community Services, and from private and corporate donations and fund-raising events.
The First Steps Home Visit Program began operating April 1, 1993. The program is offered to families who have a child between birth and school age who has developmental delays or is at risk for delay in one or more developmental area. |
