JOSEPH LANGLOIS was in D'Escousse as early as 1820. He petitioned the Government for a "lot near D'Escousse leased by crown to Lewis Meunier by him conveyed to Moses Desroche, by him to Clement Hubert, by him to petitioner. Lot 8 near D'Escousse south side of Little Passage opposite west end of Ile Binard 179 acres."; (1846 parish census he is shown as a senior).
He was listed as a farmer in the 1838 census, and shows in the 1846 census for St. Hyacinth's Parish. He died by 1859 when he is listed as "deceased" in the marriage record of his son.
He married MARGUERITE POIRIER. She was probably born between 1800 and 1810, but the 1891 census lists her as age 92 years.
In 1861 Marguerite Langlois, widow, was the head of the household, as she was in the 1871 census. In 1881 she was living alone, and in 1891 was living with her son Aime and family.

The Doyles came from Wexford, a seaport on the southeast coast of Ireland. Irish parents unknown, Daniel Doyle who married an Irish women Mary Nolan 1786-1877 in Ireland came to Rocky Bay, Isle Madame, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, Canada, in the early 1800s. They had 3 sons and 4 daughters.
Daniel's younger brother, my great great grandfather, Edward Doyle 1806-1887, came later, probably in 1820s. He first went to Newfoundland and eventually settled in Lower River Inhabitants on Cape Breton Island. He married Elizabeth Margaret Henrietta 'Harriet' Morgan at Strait of Canso, Cape Breton Island,in 1840. They had 5 sons and 1 daughter. Among the sons was my great grandfather Edward "Ned" Doyle 1848-1941. Edward "Ned" Doyle married first Matilda Doyle 1856 - 1884 in 1879, at D'Escousse, Isle Madame, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, daughter of Charles Daniel Doyle and Virginia Landry, she was born at Rocky Bay. They were 2nd cousins. They lived on a small farm in Poulamon, Isle Madame, Nova Scotia, Canada. They had 1 son and 2 daughters, my grandmother, Genevieve Ann 'Gennie'Doyle 1881 - 1972, she married in 1911 Joseph Vitale Langlois 1880 - 1925. He was a seaman and sailed out of Massachusetts and while there changed his surname to Langley.
Edward 'Ned' Doyle married second Mary Bridget O'Rourke 1865 - 1945 from Holyrood, Newfoundland, in 1886, at D'Escousse, Isle Madame, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia. They had 4 sons and 7 daughters. He was a master builder and contractor, believed to have built Churches and Wharves in the Cape Breton area and on Mainland of Nova Scotia. He was also a merchant and had a small General Store where he lived for many years in Poulamon, Isle Madame, Nova Scotia, Canada.
Doyle's from Lower River inhabitants married into the other Doyle families including my great grandfathers siblings Michael Philip Doyle who married his 3rd cousin Agnes Ann Doyle from Rocky Bay. Several of the Doyle's in Rocky Bay, Richmond Co., NS, including Matilde Doyle above, sister Alvina Doyle married into the Doyle family of Margaree area, Inverness Co., NS, Canada. These three Doyle families were previously related through intermarriages in there native Ireland. These Doyle's of Rocky Bay also married into other Margaree families.
The Doyle's of Arichat are descendants of his son Edward Charles "Charlie" Doyle 1882-1972 from his first marriage to Matilda Doyle.

They came to D'Escousse area via France, Senegal Africa, New Orleans, LA and Charleston, South Carolina, USA. Believed to have arrived in Nova Scotia in 1842. Jeanne Dorau who was previously married left with Capt. Jean "John" Pertus, perhaps an early beau - taking her daughter, Melanie, but leaving her husband and older boy behind. She may never have married Jean Pertus.
Records in Saint-Louis, Senegal, confirm that Jeanne had two children while married to Jean Bareste: Urbain and Melanie, although the birth record of Melanie suggests that the person reporting the birth, Emanuel Dubois, may be the father. The Pertus family is reported to have settled at Cascaret Island (Pertus Island) near River Bourgeois, Nova Scotia, about 1843. The family was listed as "of Isle Cascaret" (known locally as Pertus Island) in the 1870 birth record of granddaughter. The Nova Scotia Dept. of Lands and Forest map, published in 1953, shows Jean Pertus as occupying the 56 acres of Casaret island off the shore of River Bourgeois. According to census records, the eldest boy John Pertus was born in Charleston, South Carolina, just prior to that. (Tradition in the family, on the other hand, holds that they also lived for a time in New Orleans prior to Charleston.)
Jeanne is likely the same person identified as "Madame Bareste", age 74, resident of Nova Scotia, who is shown arriving in Boston, Massachusetts on June 18, 1885 on the S.S. Bargue Jennie Cashman sailing from Sierra Leone, Although Pertus family story says that Jean B. Pertus and Marie Jeanne Dorau eventually set sail for France and were never heard of again. Presumed lost at sea.

The name Boudrot is thought to refer to a descendant of Botthar, an army messenger.
There story and those that are related to us. Michel Boudrot, was born in France around 1600 and settled in Port Royal, Nova Scotia, then Acadia during the 1630s, is the ancestor of the Acadian family of that name. He was probably recruited by Gov. Charles d'Aulnay since he was present at the baptism of the governor's daughter, Marie d'Aulnay, on Sept. 21, 1639, in his capacity as First Trustee of Port-Royal. He was also one of the signatories of an attestation favourable to d'Aulnay's works in 1687. At the Port-Royal census of 1671, he was 71 years old and the father of a family of 11 children, three of whom were married. He had married Michelle Aucoin ABOUT 1641. In 1686, he was lieutenant general and judge of the Port-Royal tribunal. His son Charles settled at Pisiguit (Windsor, NS) and Claude at Grand-Pre, while Jean and Michel went to Beaubassin (Amherst, NS). His other sons stayed at Port-Royal, including Abraham my wife's direct descendant, who was a navigator and merchant. He traded with Boston on his shallop, the Marie. In January 1693, Commander de Villebon sent him on a mission to Boston where he was to make discreet inquiries about the state of affairs there and to report to him. He seems to have acquitted himself of his mission with success.
From Port Royal, these descendants had various residences. Before finally arriving on Isle Madame on Cape Breton Island they lived for periods of time on St. Pierre & Miquelon, French Islands south of the southeast coast of the Province of Newfoundland (still owned by France), Madeleine Island in the Gulf of St. Lawrence and finally Isle Madame, one of the great seaport areas of the 19th and early part of the 20th century. Following in the footsteps of Abraham, several descendants of Michel Boudrot and Michelle Aucoin became navigators. In 1755, the Boudrot family was a large one and established in several communities in Acadia. This family was deported in several places in North America and in Europe. Several can be found in different New England colonies, including Massachusetts, Philadelphia, Connecticut and Louisiana. Many were thrown in prisons in southern England (Bristol and Southampton in particular), and were later transported to France after the Treaty of Paris, in 1763. These families were established at Belle-Isle-en-Mer, Cherbourg and Saint-Malo in Northern France. Several of those families found a way of returning to Acadia. Among them, the family of Germain Boudreau who was one of the pioneers of Cheticamp in Cape Breton. Several Boudreau families living at Beaubassin, Î le Saint-Jean and Cape Breton were able to escape the Deportation and found refuge in Quebec. They are to be found in different communities but notably in the Nicolet, Repentigny and Deschambault areas. Others made their way to the & Icirc; les-de-la-Madeleine at Petit de Grat on Isle Madame in Cape Breton. Several families settled in New Brunswick in the Memramcook Saint Anselme area, in Caraquet and in Petit-Rocher. The family of Pierre Boudreau and Madeleine Melanson from Port-Royal established itself at Memramcook. Their son, Isaac Boudreau, became the captain of a company of Acadians who supported the American War of Independence. Another of his sons settled at Inkerman in the northern part of the province. Joseph Boudreau, son of Anselme and Marguerite Gaudet of Beaubassin, found refuge at Restigouche on Chaleur Bay where he married Jeanne Hache in 1761. He later lived during a few years on Miscou before settling in Caraquet. He died at Nipisiguit in 1797 However, he is not the sole ancestor of that family in Petit-Rocher since another Boudreau, Joseph-Athanase, who had lived for several years at Deschambault, Quebec, also settled in Petit-Rocher at the close of the 18th century. The latter was a miller and is the ancestor of the Boudreau's of Beresford.
