                             NOTES
      
      Hugh Rose of Kilravock married Mary, daughter of Sir Andrew 
      de Bosco ( Knight ) by his wife Elizabeth ( Lady of Kilravock)   
      third daughter of Sir John Bisset ( Knight ).
      
      Upon this the Lands of Kilravock were settled in dower, and by 
      her disposed to her son in law Hugh Rose.
      
        
      
      Rose of Holme
      
               descended from Alexander second son of Hugh rose 
      and Moir his wife-- A. D. 1400.
      
      John Rose of Holme married Jane daughter of Alexander 
      
      Cumming, Esq. of Logie County, Moray and had :
      
      Sons 1.
      
          Hugh - Lt. Colonel E. I. Cos. Cavalry married Anne
      
      daughter of Henry Topham, Sinbury County, Middlesex and
      
      died August 26th, 1836, leaving two daughters viz: Anne -
      
      married to D. Cheap, Professor of Civil Law in the University
      
      of Edinboro', and Charlotte married to Lt. General Sir John
      
      Fox Burgoyne, Bart. G. B. in 1821.

          Alexander Capt. 73rd, foot ----------died 1799,
      
      Son 3 Robert, died childless.

          1. John Nugent Rose of Holme Co., Inverness of the
      
      Bombay Civil Service -- born Sept. 2nd, 1812 married in March 
      
      1846, Anna Margaret daughter of Colonel Wray- Palliser
      
      of Derryluskan Co., Tipperay and Conragh Co., Waterford
      
      and by her ( who died Feby. 1847 ) a daughter who died in 
      
      infancy.
      
          2. James Fraser born 29th of January 1814, lieut.
      
      E. I. Co. S.---- died April 21st, 1837.
      
          3. Alexander, born December 21st, 1818, Ensign E.
      
      I. C. S. died November 15th, 1841.
      
          4. Hugh Francis, born January 8th, 1821, clergyman
      
      of Church of England -- Rector of S. Cross and Homersfield,
      
      Soffolk.
      
          5. henry, Bengal Civil Service, born November 24th. 
      1826.

      The Arms and Crest are the same as Rose of Kilravock with a

      William Rose 11th, Laird of Kilravock married Lillas sister
      
      of William Hay of Dalgotie and died in 1611 leaving with
      
      three other sons Hugh Rose -- his successor and David Rose of
      
      Earlsmilne who died May 31st, 1669, leaving by his wife
      
      ( Christian daughter of James Cuthbert of Easter Deakies )
      
      with three other sons, of whom the eldest, Hugh, was author
      
      of a history of the family ---- a youngest son -- the Rev.
      
      Alexander Rose Clergyman of Lochlee and Lithurst -- who by
his
      
      wife ( Margaret daughter of Donald rose of Water Clernie ) had
      
      the Right Honorable George Rose born at Brechin, Scotland,
      
      January 17th, 1744, M. P. for Christ-Church who was a 
      
      distinguished Statesman and writer of the last century.
      
      
          In the administration of Mr. Pitt whose friendship
      
      and confidence he enjoyed in a special degree, Mr. rose was
      
      President of the board of Trade and Treasurer of the navy.
      
          He also held the lucrative office of clerk of the
      
      Parliaments. He died at Cuffnells his seat in Hampshire
      
      January 13th, 1818, leaving Theodora his wife (daughter of)
      
      (John Dues of the Island of Antigua W. I. ) two sons and one
      
      daughter.

          1. Frances Theodora
     
     The elder son became The Right Honorable Sir George Henry

     Rose G. C. H. Clerk of the Parliaments, Lord of the Manor

     of Sandhills, Hants I. P. D. L. and M. P. for Southampton

     and afterwards for Christ-Church, in 1805 he was on of the

     Paymaster Generals of the Army, in 1814 he went as Envoy

     Extraordinary to Munich and afterwards to Berlin. He 

     married Frances daughter of T. Duncombe Esq. of Duncombe

     Park, York county, and by her ( who died October 12th 1861 )

     had:

     Sons.   1. Hugh Henry  ( Lord Strathnairn )

            2. William ( Sir ) K. C. B. of Leister old Abbey

     Suffolk ( clerk of Parliament in 1875 ), having been Deputy

     Clerk over twenty five years--- He married March 15th, 1856,

     ---Sophia Thellusion second daughter of John second Lord

     Renlesham.

          3. Arthur Robert --- dead.

          4. Frances Theodora who married July 3rd, 1817,

     George Sholto, Earl of Morton who died March 31st, 1858.

     Sir George henry Rose died June 18th, 1855. His eldest son

     Sir Henry, Baron Strathnairn --(G. C. B.  K. S. I. P. C.)

     of Strathnairn in the County of Nairn and of Jhansi,

     in the East Indies in the Peerage of the United Kingdom.

     A Field Marshall in the Army, formly commanding the Forces 

     in Ireland, Colonel of the royal Regt. of Horse Guards born

     1803. He entered the army 1820 served in Syria where he was

     made Lieut. Colonel. He was Consul General in Syria ----

     ( Born 1842. )      He was Charge' d' affairs at Constan-

     tinople and Commissioner at head Quarters of the French Army

     during Crimean war and made K. C. B. Knight Commander of
the 

     Legion of Honor and knight of the Medjiore.

     He commanded the Central India force during the Sepoy Mutiny

     captured Jhansi, received the thanks of Parliament made a 

     G. C. B.   Lieut. General in 1860. K. S. I. in 1861.

     In 1860 he was Commander in Chief in India till 1865 when

     he commanded Forces in Ireland and made a General and a P.
C..

     He was made Field Marshall in 1877 and raised to the House of

     Lords July 31st, 1866.
