One of the most exciting and meaningful aspects of the Cub Program is the opportunity to earn badges. Youth will be given opportunity to earn badges, stars and awards through the various program activity areas, such as The Natural World, Home and Community, Canada and the World, Creative Expression, Outdoor Activities, and Health and Fitness.

Each year our planning team set a general theme for our program based on one of these six activity areas mentioned above. As a group we work weekly activities around specific badge requirements. Therefore as a group the cubs will earn many of the badges in that activity area. Individually Cubs can also earn badges based on activities at home, school or other community organization. We also hold several badge testing nights each year when we test cubs on badges they worked for on their own. Cubs are expected to come prepared to be tested; they must have a good knowledge of the requirements and have all supporting items with them.  We help them as much as possible, but they must try first.

Badges are earned not given.

Cubs must have done preparation work at home for badges and can bring in notes to help them in testing. This must be their work not the parents. Parents are encouraged to help but not do the work for them!

Easy Badges for 1st Years

Here are some easy first time badges for our new comers:

Collectors Badge, Family Helper, Pet Care, Team Player, Athlete Badge

Stars:

Stars provide an basic introduction to each activity area. These require little or no previous experience in the activity area. Star requirements act as a stepping stone towards specific badges:

Badges:

Badges provide opportunity for the you to explore a particular activity area in greater detail. It requires Cubs to have or develop a greater skill and knowledge level through the badge work. Some badges interrelate providing an even greater learning experience.

Awards:

Awards are designed to give more focus and challenge to Cubs who are especially keen to explore a specific badge area, and require and develop greater skill and knowledge for Cubs. The awards copy the look, style and shape of Scout achievement badges and prepare Cubs for the transition to Scouts.
