A letter from Rebecca Hall, originally from Newfoundland and former member of the Atlantic Flute Society, now living on the island of Malta. Addressed to Beth DuBois on Feb. 9, 2006, it is reprinted here with permission:

Long lost greetings from sunny Malta !

Hope all is well with you and that the Atlantic Flute Society is going strong.

Ideas have a way of fermenting with me, and so I took inspiration from the Atlantic Flute Society when we started the Malta Flute Society last year. The organization is small, but very enthusiastic and we have has a series of projects on the schedule that keep us very busy.

This coming Sunday (12 Feb.) we will be hosting a masterclass with Andrea Griminelli on Mozart as a precursor to his performances with the National Orchestra on Valentines day. We'll also be hosting a MAJOR internationsl symposium entitled "Festival of the Golden Flute" from 28 June - 1 July 2006. Guest artists are Marina Piccinini (Who grew up in St. John's , BTW) and Peter Lukas Graf!

Information is on the webpage of the National Orchestra of Malta www.maltaorchestra.com, but I'd love to forward something for the Atlantic Flute Society web page. After all, it is a festival that features lots of Atlantic Canadian Flutists and Flute Music!

We'll be featured in Pan, Syrinx (Italian Flute Society) as well as probably Flute Talk this spring - so we are really launching with a bang!

All the best!

Rebecca Hall
