DÚO MUSICAL, comprised of flutist Sonya Wadden and guitarist Edwin Hughes, specializes in classical and Latin American music written and arranged for flute and guitar.
Flutist Sonya Wadden is a native of
Cape
Breton
and received her bachelor of music education degree from
Dalhousie
University
, where she studied with Elizabeth Dubois. Wadden has performed in masterclasses held by Robert Aitken, and Rebecca Hall. Wadden currently lives in
Brooklyn

PEI
and is the music director at M. E. Callaghan Intermediate.
Guitarist Edwin Hughes, son of the late Island fiddler Earl Hughes, received his performance bachelor of music degree from
Dalhousie
University
and upon graduation was awarded the Dalhousie University Medal for Music. Hughes has studied with Caröl Van Feggelen, Sylvie Proulx, Douglas Reach, and more recently Jean Vallières at the
Domain

Quebec
. Hughes has performed in masterclasses held by Vincea McClelland, Raymond Cousté, Norbert Kraft, Dale Kavanagh, Jeffrey McFadden, and Roland Dyens. Hughes currently lives in

The series of chamber music concerts will continue at the Kirk of St. James,
Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island

The music is generously given by the performers, but donations to the upkeep and preservation of the beautiful space are appreciated.

Acadia Music Camps
Acadia University in Wolfville, Nova Scotia, offers a variety of summer youth camps in music and in science.
Of particular interest to flutists are the band camps, which include the flute instructors Sandra Britten, Diane Clarke, and Amanda Mark.
The flute can be accommodated in specific combos in jazz camp as well; consult with jazz camp director Jeff Goodspeed.

Summer Flute Camps
These programs give young flutists the opportunity to learn more about their instrument from professional flutists. A variety of classes are offered and the programs are suitable for either students who have learned flute in school band or in private instruction.
Each day students will have a technique class to improve playing skills, a solo class to learn some of the beautiful music for flute, and flute choir. We will be using alto and bass flute in this class. Also, there will be elective classes in piccolo, celtic flute and jazz flute throughout the week.
The Summer Flute program is for flute students with a minimum of one year experience.
Private instruction throughout the week is also available.

Boxwood celebrates 12 years! Join us in beautiful Lunenburg, Nova Scotia to discover the traditional music of the flute amid one of North America's most exquisite 18th century seaside towns. Boxwood presents the timeless voice of the flute along with many other instruments and voices in concerts, dances, sessions, classes, lectures with gourmet cuisine in the heart of Nova Scotia's beautiful South Shore to inspire the creative spirit of every participant. The Boxwood experience brings together kindred spirits from all over the world creating lasting friendships, nourishing music, and soulful fun in a unique festival and workshop program that is completely non-competetive.
Boxwood has received worldwide recognition over the past decade producing extraordinary gatherings dedicated to exploring and sharing the oral traditions of flute playing. Boxwood’s invited guest artists change from year to year to include leading players, teachers, makers, and scholars from among many musical traditions. Students attend classes daily and are encouraged to visit with each teacher during the course of the week with the aim of expanding musical vocabulary, learning new techniques, broadening their sense of the instrument, and enabling them to find their own musical voice. The evenings are filled with social gatherings that include excellent meals, concerts, social dancing, informal gatherings and sessions of music-making with students and teachers alike. While the week in Lunenburg focuses on the flute & whistle and their musical traditions, the festival encourages a multidisciplinary approach, inviting a variety of artists, students and players of all instruments at all levels novice and experienced, including players of the modern Boehm system flute.

Suzie LeBlanc is one of Canada’s great musical voices, and Tout Passe is her musical pilgrimage exploring the rich and poignant well of Acadian song. A pre-concert gourmet dinner of steamed Indian Point mussels in a classic French herb and garlic broth, grilled free range organic chicken, and fresh local vegetables starts the evening off in support of Boxwood’s scholarship fund.
