Welcome
My research is in the history and philosophy of biology.  Specifically, I am interested in the use of group concepts such as 'population,' 'ethnicity,' and 'race' in genetics.  My approach is broadly epistemological: I study how group categories are constituted in different research contexts, with particular attention to the role of values.

I teach undergraduate courses in introductory philosophy, scientific method, science and values, philosophical issues in feminism, environmental ethics, political philosophy, philosophy of science, philosophy of biology, and feminist philosophy.  I am currently treasurer of the International Society for the History, Philosophy and Social Studies of Biology (ISHPSSB, or "Ishkabibble" among friends) and a subject editor for the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy.
