SUNDAY SERVICE TIME CHANGE
Our service time is moving from 10:30am to 10am. Many churches have a different summer worship hour. This allows people to have the opportunity to come to church before going to enjoy picnics, camps, beaches, and other afternoon activities.
Please mark the time change in your calendars. Service is at 10am!
We are trying to meet the needs of all our family members. Over the past few years we have tried various times for Sunday School to help meet the needs of parents, students, teachers, and congregation members as children come in and out of the church during worship. Our attempts have not been as successful as we had hoped.
This fall we are going to continue meeting for worship at 10am. Sunday school will commence after communion (around 11-11:15am). This timing will allow an opportunity for adult learning, continued coffee-time, and possible fellowship events like potlucks after church. People will be able to participate and still leave for home around noon.
This may be an inconvenience for some of you. We ask your indulgence during this trial period. We intend to evaluate the time change at our annual meeting in January.
How does the 10am service time meet the needs of our family?
*Sunday school teachers and students are able to come to all of the church service. Teachers are part of the community and have felt somewhat left out when they miss announcements and the scripture readings for the day. Children are able to learn the rhythm of the service and enter into the "sticking-power" of the liturgy much better if they are present. It makes teaching confirmation easier and for some it is the reason they continue to come once confirmed.
* Sunday school teachers have had a lack of time to teach the lessons they prepare. Meeting after church from 11am (11:15am)-12pm allows more time to get into the material. The new time will help the parents who are having difficulty getting their children here on time.
*Adult education opportunities can be offered on Sunday morning and not cut into peoples’ busy afternoon schedules. There are members who would like to talk about and grow their faith but find it difficult to come to mid-week events. Being here already on Sunday morning is convenient. One idea is to have groups of 8-10 people reflect on the service of the day; discussing how to relate what was heard to their lives, looking at the sermon for the day, maybe talking about something that struck you, or didn’t work for you. What a great way to integrate faith into every day life!
*Generally our service runs for an hour and fifteen minutes. On Sundays when there are extra people, or a big celebration like confirmation, or Easter we run over. Beginning earlier will allow people the opportunity to stay before having to run off.
Thank-you for your willingness to adapt to the time change.
Blessings, Kimber
