How is the Hamm Government visible in Cumberland South?
Since I took office, I have hosted various Ministers to our area:
The Honourable Rodney MacDonald, Minister of Tourism and Culture, toured Cumberland South stopping at many of our tourist attractions beginning in Springhill and traveling through to Parrsboro, River Hebert, Port Greville and Advocate.
The Honourable Gordon Balser, former Minister of Economic Development and now the Minister of Energy, was here on a couple of occasions first to tour some of the local businesses starting in Oxford and ending in Parrsboro. Minister Balser was also present with Minister Angus MacIsaac of Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations for the official opening of Oxford Frozen Foods expansion.
The Honourable Jamie Muir, Minister of Health, was in Parrsboro to meet with Mayor Doug Robinson and members of the local Commununity Health Committee at the South Cumberland Community Care Centre and the adjoining clinic. He was very impressed with the bright, clean, openess of both facilities, and the discussion at the meeting centered around the health care issues affecting the Parrsboro area.
The Deputy Minister of Education, Dennis Cochrane, was in the
area to meet with the Springhill and Oxford School Advisory
Committees. The Lieutenant Governor, Myra Freeman, also visited the area
and went to elementary schools in Oxford and Springhill along
with the Anne Murray Centre.Premier Hamm always visits our constituency during his
summer toursand this past summer he had the opportunity to
visit a number of our communities to speak with residents
about their concernsin addition to being present for the grand
opening of the paint recycling company, Laurentide Atlantic,
in Springhill. You may recall the the company's announcement
last November to movefrom Moncton to better serve the Atlantic
region, in which the Nova Scotia Resource Recovery board
contributed $100,000 to assist with this project.
