Murray has been married to Linda Scott, an elementary school teacher, since 1973. They have two children, Jeremy and Jan.
Murray was first elected as MLA for Cumberland South March 1998 and re-elected in July 1999. He was also elected to be the Speaker of the House by his peers in August 1999.
