Gary Brown offers public
carving shows and can be hired by groups, organizations and
event organizers worldwide. Gary gives live carving demonstrations,
presented in full period dress, which includes true stories of
nautical adventure, history of ships and shipcarving. He also invites
members of the viewing audience, young and old, to come up to the piece
under creation and participate in carving at their own speed.
Gary is also very keen to answer questions, both about
his work and maritime history in general. He is especially good with
children, catching their interest with his great on-the-
spot
storytelling ability. He has been a hit with young and old at public
shows held at :
-
the Maritime Museum of
the Atlantic in Halifax, Nova Scotia;
-
the 1999 Fetes de la Nouvelle France Festival;
-
the Encampment 1999, Louisburg, Nova Scotia;
-
the Victoria-By-The-Sea wooden Boat Festival in
Prince Edward Island and
-
the Festival of the Strait in Port Hawkesbury,
Nova Scotia
Gary offers a number of
carving classes each year. These start in the fall of each year and are held at local high schools and at his own workshop in Ketch
Harbour, Nova
Scotia.
Classes are designed to cater to students of all ages and skill levels.
Following is a list of classes planned for this year. Potential students
are advised to register no less than one week before the class begins.
Gary will also travel anywhere
in the world to give carving classes to interested groups or persons.
