Our Conductors

The Pictou County Community Orchestra is led by two co-conductors: Gaétan Bouchard and Ken Henderson.

Gaeton Bouchard

Gaétan Bouchard

Gaétan Bouchard studied at the Québec City and the Chicoutimi Conservatory of Music. Enlisting in the Canadian Forces in 1970 as a French Horn instrumentalist, he graduated from the Canadian Forces School of Music in Victoria, BC. Over his career he has served as an instructor and supervisor with the Canadian Forces School of Music, Associate Director of Music with the Central Band of the Canadian Forces in Ottawa, Director of Music for the Royal Canadian Artillery Band in Montréal, and the Air Command Band in Winnipeg, and Director of Music with the Stadacona Band of the Canadian Forces in Halifax. He was promoted to the rank of Commander and appointed as the Supervisor of Music for the Canadian forces. Gaétan Bouchard is now retired and lives in Trenton, NS.

Ken Henderson

Ken Henderson

Ken Henderson grew up in Truro, and began playing in the community band, the Truro Concert Band, while in junior high. He considers himself fortunate to have been an early student of Ron MacKay. Other musical mentors include Chalmers Doane, Jack Sirulnikoff, Paul Murray and Wilf Harvey. Ken is retired after a public school teaching career in Middleton and Truro, and is currently Musical Director of the Truro Concert Band,as well as co-conductor of the Pictou County Community Orchestra.
