He passed away peacefully in the VG Site, QEII on June 23, 2008, at 10:30 a.m., after a two-year battle with colon cancer. Freddie was a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle and grandfather. He was born on August 25, 1934, in Buckfield, Queens Co., to deceased parents, Henry "Harry" and Elizabeth "Lizzie" (Joudry) Robar. He grew up in Buckfield, before he moved to the city in 1952. He worked for Ferry Aviation, Shearwater and then Underwater Weapons, Department of National Defence until he retired, January 30, 1995. He continued work by helping to operate the family businesses, "Sunchasers Tanning Spa" and "Stepping Stones Hair Design & Spa", until he became ill. Fred was a devoted member of Stevens Road United Baptist Church, where he served as a teller, usher and two terms as treasurer and other various committees. Freddie was loved by his family and many friends. He was a kind man, who was always the first to help someone out. There wasn't anything he couldn't fix, if not the first time, then usually the second. He was always quick with a smile or a witty remark. He loved to tease and enjoyed a good practical joke, even when played on him. He loved sports, baseball and hockey were among his favourites, and he played baseball until he was in his fifties, when his knees grew older than he was. He was our rock and anchor and will be missed dearly by his wife of 51 years, Florence, who was the love of his life; sons, Gregory and Michael; daughter, Cynthia, and daughter-in-law, Tracy; brother, Rupert (Sandra); sister, Annie; his many cousins, nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. The pride and joy of his life was his grandson, Devin, who will miss his granddad most of all. Roy, for their excellent care and support, and Judy White and the staff of Woodlawn Medical Clinic for all their help. We would also like to thank, Rev. Shirley DeMerchant and the congregation of Stevens Road United Baptist Church for their friendship and prayers, along with many friends and family for their support during this difficult time.
