Paul has 29 years in law enforcement and during that time has specialized in Search and Rescue as a SAR Manager and as an educator in this field of public safety and volunteerism.
He was associated with the Search and Rescue Alberta Association as past president and their training coordinator for many years. www.saralberta.org.
A trainer by nature, he has been involved in writing courses and training standards, across Alberta and the Arctic for the last ten years. Additionally he teaches Basic SAR courses, SAR Management, Evidence Handling, Navigation Survival and Effective Presentations.
Paul is often asked to consult and or speak to interest groups on these related matters.
From 1999 – 2004 he has also contracted to the Nunavut and North West Territorial Government to work with the local communities to train and to learn. Additionally he has written training material for these environments and has worked under some of the best people in the business.
In 2003 Paul was the recipient of the Federal National Search and Rescue Secretariat “Outstanding SAR Achievement” award for his contribution to SAR efforts in Canada. http://www.nss.gc.ca
.
Often Paul has been asked to address public service groups, schools, youth groups (scouts, cadets) etc to talk about Search and Rescue, wilderness safety, survival etc.
If you are interested in a presentation then please ask.
Urban Search and Rescue is also a rapidly growing area of specialization and Paul teaches and trains law enforcement and civilians in this area. Another project Paul worked on was the creation of the Civil Emergency Response course to train civilian SAR workers to respond to and assist at “civil peace time disasters”. The course is now provincially funded and Paul is travelling throughout Canada to encourage this training as a national project.
During his off time, he is an avid outdoorsman with activities such as hiking, canoeing and kayaking as well as enjoying a pilot’s license and any related aviation activity.
Additionally he will offer his services to others to make sure you buy or obtain the right gear for the right job and will also consult in this area.
Paul’s specific interest in GPS training comes from this, as he knows that there are many out there who require additional training in the BASICS of Navigation, exactly what the Green Check GPS course offers.
