Kirby 25 Overhaul

Before
When the boat arrived it needed a paint job, new decks, some strengthening and hole patching in and under the deck, a new floor and hatch boards, interior paint and a cooler installed as a step.

Hatches
Replacement hatches were cut from plywood and then fiberglassed on both sides. The tops were faired ready for paint. They were painted with anti-skid paint as used on the deck.

Floor
The floor was cut from a sheet of plywood and fiberglassed on both sides for strength and protection. Chocks were fiberglassed in to hold the cooler/step. The top was faired out ready for paint. The bilge was prepped for additional stringers.
Stringers shaped from foam core were glassed in place ensuring support for the floor and plentiful drainage for any water. The entire bilge was painted prior to installing the floor. The aft section of the floor was painted to match the smooth areas of the deck and the forward area was painted with anti-skid paint as used on the deck.

Bulkhead
After the area was prepped, foam core was cut to shape and fitted under the forward edge of the cockpit. The core was glassed in with multiple layers of fiberglass to ensure strength. The bulkhead was faired out ready for paint.

Interior
The cabin liner was removed for aesthetics and ease of access. Areas around the windows and main hatch were faired in. The entire interior was then painted.

Main Hatch
The edges of the main hatch were ground back and then re-inforced with fiberglass. The edges were faired ready for paint. The hatch was painted to match the rest of the smooth areas of the deck.

Forward Cabin House
The old paint and gelcoat was sanded off. Two layers of heavy fiberglass were laid over the area. Everything was faired out ready for anti-skid paint.

Hull
The hull was prep-sanded and faired. Uneven areas were primed and sanded again to ensure a smooth finish. A black topcoat was sprayed on. The cove stripe and name, consisting of cut vinyl graphics, were applied.

Deck
After holes had been repaired and faired, the whole deck was prep-sanded. Deck gear was taped off and the smooth sections sprayed white. The smooth areas were then taped off. Anti-skid paint was rolled onto all the remaining areas.
