Marion Lake - A Quest for a FTF

Access to Marion Lake

FTF = First To Find
Really like to go get the out of the way caches, which usally are FTF caches cause most cacher's don't attempt them. But there are some of us who enjoy the adventure and locations more than the cache itself. Me being one of them, this one has been on my radar for a while. We had and needed something to do, so we set out on this FTF adventure. On the way, there was another cache, so 2 caches was even better. The first cache ended up being a beautiful waterfall (Gordon Chutes).Below are my logs.

Was not nice enough to go camping so we decided to go caching. We headed to Marion Lake for a unfound cache. This was along the way. WOW. This was awesome, an amazing location well worth the effort. Loved the area, so picturesque. We actually stopped again on our way back to get some more pics. This is what caching is all about, great locations like this. Thanks for placing this cache. Dogs enjoyed the stroll to the cache, took some time to find, but we did. TFTC TNLN

GC1FCPH Where the White Pines Are
Well, where to start. We're on holidays and the weather wasn't nice enough to go camping, so my thoughts turned to caching. This one was on my radar for a while. So we packed up the truck and dogs and headed for Marion Lake. Ride in was much shorter and nicer than I thought it would be. Approx. 70kms , the road cuts straight across and not around like my maps show. Stopped at another cache on the way in. We first passed by the turn off, but as we started getting further away, I figured the last road (trail) was where we needed to turn. less than 800m to the cache. Arrived and realized that the co-ords took me right to where I parked. No cache around there. Searched down by the dock and still nothing. Checked the hint (riddle) and searched some more. We still were not having any luck. Decided to make our burgers on an open fire, so I made a fire in the smaller pit and then the rains came. Waited for the rain to stop and then stoked the fire some more. Then the rains came again.Was thinking about canceling the burgers but opted to wait it out again. It cleared up again but we could see more rain heading our way. Looked around for the cache some more and collected some more firewood. Started raining once more but by now my fire was going really well and even though it rained a little hard, the flames were still going strong. Finally stopped once again and I proceeded to cook our burgers. A few drops fell while cooking but nothing to bad. Burgers cooking, we went over the riddle some more times.Burgers cooked, we ate supper. After supper we could see rains rolling in again, so we got in the truck and went over the riddle some more and our plan to put out the fire. The rain helped a bit with the fire and this time when it stopped, we figured we better get our pictures in before it rains again. took pictures and searched some more. Packed up and were ready to leave with a DNF, but still had to put out the fire completely. Down to the lake to get water for the fire, was using our coffee mugs so many trips were taken. One more trip and we were off. Down to the water and one more final searched, looked and there it was. Was I ever happy, we got the FTF. Brought it up to the truck and went through the cache. Signed traded and maybe even a little happy dance. Now we could leave, the rains started once again, so I hurried and replaced the cache and off we went. Saw a family of grouse and one of the most amazing rainbows ever. Took lots of pics, enjoyed the area, although I wanted to try a little fishing, and had an awesome day. Was dark by the time we got back to the hwy. TFTC
