Coldstream Pastoral Charge was once three and now is two, the result of Kemptown-Riversdale closing their doors in 2008.

Greenfield is truly a "country church" in every wonderful sense of the term. It is surrounded by verdant forests and rolling fields.

If Greenfield is country, Valley is pure town, serving one of Nova Scotia, Canada's fastest growing communities.

Welcome to Coldstream Pastoral Charge

Coldstream Pastoral Charge consists of two congregations - or as we are occasionally called, “points” - each with its own building and goals in place for well over a century.

As we noted above, once we were three. However, on June 30, 2008, Kemptown-Riversdale United Church (once, just Kemptown) closed its doors for the last time and surrendered its membership in The United Church of Canada, the victim of a declining population base and a building in dire need of modernization.

If you are, by chance, relocating to the Truro, Nova Scotia, Canada area, and you're looking for a church home, you may wish to consider one of Coldstream's congregations. You can request more information or a personal call from our minister, Reverend Brian DeLong, by visiting the Contact Page (see at the bottom left of each page). And if you should ever be just passing by, please do drop in. You are always welcome.

There is a Celtic expression that says it best:
Thigibh air cheilidh! Come and visit!

NEW!
As part of the United Church of Canada's 85th anniversary celebrations, congregations across Canada have been partnered. We are pleased to inform you that Coldstream Pastoral Charge has been partnered with two churches, Brooklin United Church located in the Ontario town of the same name, and Plura Hills United Church, located in Kamloops, British Columbia.

Brooklin UC's minister, Reverend Sue Genge, has been in touch with us, and her message (and snail mail address) follows.

Dear Friends in Christ at Coldstream Pastoral Charge:
Happy Easter Season to you! We are pleased to have been paired with you in the UCC's 85th Anniversary Making Connections program.
Our church is celebrating its 170th anniversary this year, but we are holding off on the big festivities until our 175th year. We are the only United Church congregation in the small village of Brooklin, Ontario (population approximately 18,000), and we are situated in North Whitby, in the northwest end of Oshawa Presbytery of Quinte Conference.
Some of our church leadership include: Rick Barnes - Chairperson of Church Council; Betty Flannery, Chairperson of the Worship and Music Committee; Kim Pileggi, Secretary of the Church Council; and Bonny Langille, office administrator.

Reverend Genge informs us that she is the sole paid, accountable minister on staff, however there is a Voluntary Associate, Mrs. Susan Robinson, DM.

(If you have some knowledge of Ontario, Brooklin is east of Toronto in a truly lovely area of the province. The Bay of Quinte is a popular vacation and cottage location for many Ontarions.)

==================================================================

Our second partner, Plura Hills United Church, is located in Kamloops, British Columbia. In an introductory email from their minister, Reverend Carolyn Ronald, she explains the name:
Plura Hills United has a unique history in that its name is an acronym for Presbyterian, Lutheran, United, Roman Catholic, Anglican. It started as an ecumenical ministry about 30 years ago, meeting in homes and schools, but has been in its own United Church facility for about 10 years.

If you would like to write or email either one, or both of our partners, please contact The Webmaster.

We intend to send them photographs of our two congregations (Valley UC and Greenfield UC) and hopefully develop a permanent relationship with them.

For the time being, correspondence between us will be featured on the website's opening page. However, we hope in the near future to create a separate page with more news and, hopefully, some pictures.

Keep watching!

IT'S TIME FOR THE WEBSITE TO TAKE ITS ANNUAL SUMMER BREAK

We will be returning to our regular practice of including a copy of the Weekly Service as well as our Calendar of Events in a newly designed website, commencing September 18, 2010.

Regular services continue through the summer at Greenfield United Church - 9:30 AM - and Valley United Church, 11:15 AM. However, you would be wise to contact the Administration Office to confirm these times.

Have a safe and happy summer!
The Webmaster
