We are Valley United Church and Greenfield United Church, a two congregation, or as we are sometimes called, a two "point" Charge of the United Church of Canada.

In its preamble to the Statement of Faith (1940), The United Church of Canada has written:
"The [Church's] faith is the unchanging Gospel of God's holy, redeeming love revealed in Jesus Christ. It is declared in Scripture; it is witnessed to both in the creeds of the Universal Church and in the Confessions of the Reformed Churches; and it is formulated for a specific purpose in our Basis of Union.

"But Christians of each new generation are called to state it afresh in terms of the thought of their own age and with the emphasis their age needs. This we have attempted to do for the people of The United Church of Canada - seeking always to be faithful to Scripture and to the testimony of the Universal Church, and always aware that no statement of ours can express the whole truth of God."

Coldstream Pastoral Charge, an important component of North Central Nova Scotia's life since 1856, is a family of faith born with the desire to provide a safe spiritual environment for people of all ages, backgrounds, and economic standing. The United Church of Canada crest ©, designed by the Reverend Dr. T. Mooney, a former treasurer of the United Church, was officially adopted in 1944. In three of the corners of the crest are symbols which represent the Congregational (open Bible), Methodist (dove), and Presbyterian (burning bush) communions. Our Creed states the following: We are not alone,we live in God's world. We believe in God: who has created and is creating, who has come in Jesus,the Word made flesh,to reconcile and make new,who works in us and others by the Spirit. We trust in God. In life, in death, in life beyond death, God is with us. We are not alone. Thanks be to God.

The United Church of Canada is the largest Protestant denomination in this country. It ministers to nearly 3 million people in over 3500 congregations across Canada, and the history is closely entwined with the development of the country itself.

The United Church was inaugurated on June 10, 1925 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada when the Methodist Church, Canada, the Congregational Union of Canada, and 70 per cent of the Presbyterian Church in Canada entered into an organic union. Joining as well was the small General Council of Union Churches, centred largely in Western Canada. It was the first union of churches in the world to cross historical denominational lines and hence received international acclaim.
